iTunes WARNING!!

I know this blog is not about fashion, but the story needs to be spread so people can protect themselves.  This actually happened to me, it is not a viral urban myth.  Please spread the word by Twittering, Re-Posting, Stumble-Upon-ing, anything.

I just had the unfortunate experience of someone hacking my iTunes account and charging $785 worth of music to my debit card. This happened in the span of 1.5 hours on Friday night.

Here's the awful part: I spent the entire morning on Saturday trying to get through to iTunes support to see what happened. After waiting on hold with their technical support for 15 minutes, I was given a number for their fraud department. After hanging up, I called the number and it was a bad number. This happened TWICE.

I finally got a supervisor (if you could even call him that), named "Joel" on the phone. He proceeded to let me know that it was probably someone that I know, and that my card had been compromised. I explained to him that my card had not been lost, there were no other fraudulent charges on my account, and that someone that just had my card would not know my password to get into my iTunes account. "Joel" says, and I quote, "Ma'am, no one hacked your account, that just doesn't happen." He also told me that iTunes was not at fault and my bank would have to figure it out.

I then asked what his name was, and he responded, "My name is Joel, and I am my own boss here - so I don't know where you're going with that."

Well Joel, I'm here to tell you that you do have a boss, and my mission this week will be to find out who that is.

So here's what you do:

If you have an iTunes account, and want to keep it...TAKE YOUR CARD OFF YOUR PROFILE IMMEDIATELY

Better yet, cancel your account.

p.s. As and update to this story, I posted this on the Apple discussion boards - it has been removed twice now...
